✨ What People Are Doing for ISLM - 2025 Reports
Welcome to our celebration of International School Library Month (ISLM) 2025! Zimbabwe – Inspiring ISLM Celebrations at Esiphikeni Secondary School and Minda High SchoolAnother inspiring example of ISLM celebrations comes from Zimbabwe, where schools in Matabeleland North and Matabeleland South showcased the powerful role of libraries in promoting literacy, creativity, and community engagement. At Esiphikeni Secondary School, the celebrations highlighted the importance of school libraries in nurturing a reading culture in the digital age. Guided by educators and library advocates including Harriet R. Ncube and Lewis Mukucha, students and community members participated in presentations, cultural performances, and discussions focused on literacy, technology, and the future of storytelling. The school also announced plans to make ISLM an annual event beginning in 2026. At Minda High School, the celebrations brought together educators, learners, librarians, and community leaders under the theme “Beyond the Bookshelf: AI, Libraries, and the Future of Stories.” The event featured speeches, poetry, songs, traditional dances, and presentations on establishing and managing effective school libraries. Distinguished contributors included Jerry Mathema, Harriet R. Ncube, Samukelo Moyo, and Fernando Ncube. Both celebrations demonstrated the growing commitment in Zimbabwe to strengthening school libraries, promoting digital literacy, and creating vibrant learning spaces that inspire future generations.
