✨ What People Are Doing for ISLM - 2025 Reports

Welcome to our celebration of International School Library Month (ISLM) 2025!

Slovenia – Celebrating ISLM Through Creativity, Reading and Community

A wonderful example of ISLM in action comes from Slovenia, where reading and creativity extended far beyond the classroom.

Daša Ramšak and the Elementary School of the National Hero Rajko organized an inspiring and wide-ranging celebration of International School Library Month.

Under the theme “Beyond the Bookshelf: Artificial Intelligence, Libraries and the Future of Stories,” students from all grade levels participated in creative, literary, and community-centered activities that promoted reading, imagination, and the importance of school libraries.

The celebrations began with welcoming first graders into the world of books through storytelling sessions and their first library books. Students participated in literary, art, and design competitions, story and creative workshops, bookmark exchanges with schools in Slovenia and Lithuania, quizzes on the history of libraries, and reading activities focused on friendship, courage, and diversity.

A particularly meaningful activity involved fifth-grade students visiting a home for the elderly, where reading together created a warm and joyful atmosphere across generations.

Students’ artwork and creative projects were displayed throughout the local community, including the public library, health center, youth center, supermarket, and bank, helping spread awareness of ISLM beyond the school walls. The celebrations concluded with awards for students who actively participated in the competitions and activities.

Through creativity, collaboration, reading, and community engagement, the school demonstrated how libraries continue to inspire young minds and bring people together.
