October has long been a month marked by activities dedicated to the celebration of books, film series, pictures, didactic games and reading. The entire month was marked by activities organized by the school library and some teachers of our school.

Two famous artists, Juliana Jordão and Filipe Cravo painted two canvases based on texts about libraries. The challenge was attractive to these artists that have proved, once again, their talent. Students also painted some canvas. Their works can be seen in the school library.

The activities for this year’s event included:

  • Didactic games
  • Film series
  • Reading challenges – read a selected book and write your comment about it.
  • “Like” bookmarks – put a “like” bookmark with a comment on a book you had enjoyed read.
  • Invention, Imagination and Creativity – painting canvas with two plastic artist – Filipe Cravo e Juliana Jordão - from “Tubo d’Ensaio”, and a group of students.

Portugal

From Teresa Soares, Teacher Librarian, Agrupamento de Escolas de Celeiros, Portugal

On 25th October  two artists, the Art teacher, Sandra Longras, a plastic artist, and the excellent writer, the student  Inês Pereira, who attends now the 10th grade in a secondary school, joined in a special  moment. Inês Pereira and the guitar become inseparable friends and writing happens through his wisehand. A group of  students from the 5th until the 7th grade (age-range 10/13) listened attentively to both. The teacher, Sandra Longras explained the connection between  the texts written by  Inês,read some of the texts and motivated students to read the book. It was a special and unique moment.

To commemorate the National Day of the school library, October 24, we received the teacher Manuel Antonio Castanheira who told stories, sang and played the guitar. A group of students of the primary school enjoyed the moment a lot. To motivate students to read with joy was the main purpose of the activity.

Our School Library embraced the activity "Get up and act" to commemorate the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty (October 17). Our students wrote their opinions in a common text with the title: “Bem -me -quer!”. They gave suggestions on how to fight poverty .
