To celebrate International School Library Month this year, we made several events on our school:
Watching movie
Our routine schedule that is held every month, but this month we gott different because this October we watch a movie in order to celebrate ISLM 2011.
Bookmark Project
A bit different with the same project we did last year, this year we follow bookmarks exchange program. Followed by 51 students who show their enthusiasm, every person is permitted to make more than one bookmark, but only the best one from every person will be exchanged. After selecting so many bookmarks, then there is chosen 51 bookmarks from 51 students that already sent to Portugal. Not only students who involved on this fun project, the librarian staff and teachers also made bookmarks exchange with teachers and librarians from Ireland.
Indonesian Traditional Games Expo
Just like the theme of ISLM 2011 Empower Learners for Life, we have made an event called Indonesian traditional games. Why this event? Because Indonesia is a country that rich of culture, at this moment we wanna show it from the traditional games. Remaining to global life and technology expansion, many children are now playing games on stuck LCD that also known as computer, and its happened not only in Indonesia. So that from this event we presented the traditional games that are common to be played around of Indonesia, that is congklak, gundu or kelereng, lompat tali, bekel, tapak gunung and suit. All this games are physical games that need consentration, strategy and togetherness, so that we can empower them for their lifes.
Book Bazaar
For three days we also arranged a book bazaar. There is several publisher took a stand and festive this event, all the students and teachers participated with bought some books or just sightseeing.
Meet the Author (Writing Workshop)
After school on Monday on third week of October 2011, students who had an interest in writing followed the workshop writing program. Biru Laut-an author as a resource person on this activity has come to guiding the event, he also share the tips about how to made the process of writing in a fun way. On the climax, students that involved at this activity had been asked to made a short story in 20minutes, they free to wrote about anything they liked. Two of the best story got a present from Biru Laut.
D.E.A.R. Challenge
For the read habit, our school organize reading program for two weeks. Before going home, everyday during 17th until 28th October the unique bell has rang, this bell signify the time for D.E.A.R challenge. Everyone in school has to read along 20minutes. They were free to readed about any theme, and they were happy to prepared the books to be readed during those weeks. Because this is the first time we arranged this program, there is still several students not read well at the reading time, but the teachers was so helpful to handle the students and asked them to still read well along the reading time.

Seven schools cooperate with the public libraries of our municipality. They share the catalogue and work together to promote reading. This year, each school has planned several activities from 24th to 29th October and all together will take part in a reading competition.

Our school offers several technical and vocational courses in agricultural and forestry science.
In order to promote reading, from October 24th to 28th the Library has organized several meetings with the classes from the first until the fourth year, in which we presented a selection of novels for teenagers. To celebrate the International Year of Forests, we chose works in which the natural environment or the woods was an important element of the story. Students have also been invited to submit their reviews to the library At the end of the year the three best will be awarded with a pre-paid voucher that can be spent on shopping in a bookstore.
