From Dana Juríková
I am a librarian at the school library of Bilingual Gymnasium of C. S. Lewis in Bratislava, Slovak Republic.
Our library is closely connected to Church Elementary School Narnia that is seated in the same building. Both schools form the Association of C. S. Lewis Schools and they are united in their mission.
The website of Church Elementary School Narnia offer information about the International Day of School Libraries and you can also find an invitation to this event there.
The main theme of IMSL day was: The History of Book and Development of Writing. The day started with a big opening followed by a series of workshops and activities presenting different stages in the development of book and writing. All workshops were led by older students from our school. In the afternoon we met with Pippi and her horse (from The Pippi Longstocking, by Astrid Lindgren). Part of the event was also a school competition during which we looked for the oldest, the biggest, the heaviest and the smallest book.

From Anneli Silvennoinen, Head of the Resource Centre, St Mary’s Waverley Senior School for Girls Johannesburg South Africa (Fifa 2010 country)
A casual grouping of our Library Monitors gather as part of ISLM and to wish our school leavers well as they leave to write their final exams. The matrics had a “Civvies Day†wearing their summer relaxed clothes and were off to swim at the pool after our lunch.
From left Alexia Cost, Thando Msimang (Deputy Head Monitor) and Portia Sangweni (Head Monitor ) plus all our smiling girls wish everyone a happy month. We run a Library Lottery during this month and the draw happens on Friday 29 October. The two prize winners have to be in the Library to win, so this brings crowds of excited girls into our beautiful Resource Centreand is an apt ending to a fun month.

We here at Trinidad and Tobago have designed a programme of activities for both our Secondary and Primary Schools. Visit our website to see the information on our programme of events presently taking place throughout our School Library Media Centre's (SLMC).
NALIS launched International School Library Month on Friday October 1, 2010 at the St. Augustine Secondary School. The feature address was delivered by Ms. Zena Ramatali, President of the National Parent Teachers Association of Trinidad and Tobago, who highlighted the valuable role of libraries in the lives of our students. The programme also included a special guest presentation on ‘Moving students to feats of research,’ by Ms. Kaaren Linton, a former school librarian and now Training Coordinator for COMPanion Corp. the producer of the Alexandria Integrated Library Management System. At the launch, NALIS unveiled several activities planned for both primary and secondary schools in commemoration of the International School Library Month October 2010.
The ISLM 2010 is being generously supported by Pearson Education and TSTT Blink services.
The activities for this year’s event includes:
1. A logo competition to brand and market the upgraded School Library Media Centre (SLMC) in the secondary schools.
2. ‘Just read it’ promotion using the resources from the information collections provided through the Secondary Education Modernization Programme in which the libraries were major beneficiaries.
3. ‘We make a difference’ – essay writing piece on the contribution of the SLMC to the school.
4. ‘Beyond Google’ targeting the range of electronic information resources available in the SLMC.
5. ‘Same Book Same Time’ targeted to primary schools using the information resources in their libraries.
6. Page-a-thon competition where the primary schools collate the number of pages read by individual students over a period of time.
7. Feature on community partnerships showing the adoption of a primary school library by a secondary school library.
8. Feature on ‘special needs’ schools in the communities.
Other activities will include supporting displays in the school’s library highlighting this year’s theme.
