From Camelia Mantarosie, Documentary Teacher, "Mircea Eliade" Highscool Intorsura Buzaului, Covasna, Romania
There have been several years now since we are celebrating the International School Library Month in our school. The students, the teachers and the management of our school and of other schools from the area we are living in are looking forward to this event.
1. Project team (same as last year):
Manager: Nicolae Boian
Education consultant: Maria Badiu
Documentary teacher: Camelia Mantarosie
The head-teachers of all classes.
2. Number of participating students: approximately 420 (higher than last year) aged 14-19.
3. General objectives: evidencing the role and the importance of the school libraries in the education of youth, increasing the student’s interest in lecture, showing the importance of the lecture in the entire community, volunteering, advertising the school and the CDI etc.

In order to celebrate the International School Library Day a series of activities took place in our school in October. Some others are still running at the moment. They will be briefly described and for more information you can ask for details at mantarosie_cami@yahoo.com.

* 20 October – ISLM was promoted in school (Posters, bookmarks)

* 29 October- 12 November - “The book- a gift that you can open again and again” – Coordinator – Prof. Camelia Mantarosie
The activity was organised as a contest in which all the students in the school took part. They will donate new books to the library. The books are bought with money obtained for external sponsorships. The books will be shown in an exhibition and the students will review them. Their aim is to convince on the importance of reading. The winners will go on a trip and they will also to to the theatre to see a play especially put up for them by the actors from Sfantu- Gheorghe.

* 29 October – “The metaphors notebook” – Coordinators – Prof. Maria Badiu, Prof. Maria Bularca, Prof. Camelia Mantarosie, Prof. Anca Popica, Prof. Voichita Nesa, Prof. Daniela Bancila
Same as last year, the students in the XIIth grade won prizes for the most representative quotes they selected for the books they read, and for the originality of their interpretation and also for the most significant arguments that sustained the importance of reading and literature and of the role of libraries in preparing students for lifelong learning.

* 5 November – “Six characters are looking for an author” – Coordinators – Prof. Corina Nitu, Prof. Radu Potcovaru, Prof. Doina Patrunjel, Maria Badiu, Prof. Camelia Mantarosie
In the “train station” of our high school the same train with six characters from six different novels will arrive. The characters will not be able to find their creator- the author-who is in another carriage. The students in the XIth grade will identify the characters and dramatise the end of the novels in another version.

* 5 November – “Do You still remember your childhood stories” – Coordinator – Prof. Bularca Maria, Prof. Maria Badiu
The students in the Xth grade will put together a jigsaw (a part of a story) and will dramatise the recognised stories. This year Prof. Cristina Cristea and Laura Mitrofan and their students coming from Bobocea School will participate. Their aim is to become familiar with our high school and network with our students through taking part this competition.

* 12 November – “I fight for peace”– Coordinators– Prof. Petruta Cristea, Prof. Luminta Bobes, Prof. Laura Suciu
This will be the last activity celebrating the international school library day. The students in the XIth grade will present the books they have written and illustrated. Those will be historic books militating for peace and tolerance, things that are compulsory in the development and formation of the young generation.

Congratulation to our colleagues from all over the world for all the activities they have undertaken for the International School Library Month. Good luck with your work in the year to come.

From Daniela Dorcu, School librarian,“Dimitrie A. Strudza” Iasi, Romania.
All the activities that have taken place with the pupils and my colleagues from the school have been dedicated to ISLM.

The bookmarks project had a great success, because a big number of children were willing to participate. So, guided by the English teachers, they created wonderful bookmarks, on which they wrote messages dedicated to the library, school and books.

In this month, I have initiated a campaign in which students and teachers could donate books to complete the library’s collections.

The beginning of this month was, for many 2nd grade pupils, the first contact between them and a library, so we wished them “Welcome to the book’s world”

I want to thank the teachers who were involved in this project: Carina Branzila, ms. Anca Chirila, mrs. Maria Rusu, Veronica Maxim, Elena Ispir, Carmen Tudorache, Valeria Ababii.

And I want to thank the organizers for the whole effort and time you spend on this project.

From Maria Cretu, School Librarian, Romanian langage teacher;" Vasile Alecsandri" National College
Since we are now in October, we take this time to celebrate the Library and we have a very good opportunity of showing that this compartment of everyday school life is a forum of communication, a place where information is deposited and shared in its most diverse forms.

Dialogue and Communication are essential to library activity since its services transcend disciplines and always have an educational goal. Throughout this month, our institution has housed a number of activities that put a particular
emphasis on the theme: Diversity Challenge Resilience: School Libraries Have it All, a theme which was proposed for this year by the International Association of School Librarianship.

Thematic Exhibitions:
The Book and the Library – posters and photo collages.
The Colours of the Library – Ex-libris.
Libraries know Everything – drawings.
Her Majesty, Queen Mary – memorial, 135 years since her passing away.

Reading and Creative Writing Club – The Ace Readers “LecturAsii”
The Club has weekly meetings, i.e. each and every Monday of the school year. So far, there have been three meetings this month. The first meeting opened the new school year and introduced the National Project: Book Clubs. The Club promoted its achievements through thematic exhibitions, PowerPoint presentations of its history and activities, and last but not least, the Creative Writing Competition: Write the Verses that You Love! (students were encouraged to write their favourite verses on a large board) The third and second meeting focused on creative writing exercises. Also, proposals were made for the yearly bibliography and students wrote essays on the theme: Imagine a World Without Reading! In addition, students held discussions on the presentation: Ex-Libris. The Dictionary.

Adventures in “Librarystia”
Creative Writing Competition – Students wrote quintets on reading the fairy tale, The Story of Harap Alb by Ion Creanga.

The Queen of Hearts. Her Majesty, Queen Mary of Romania. One hundred and thirty five years since her passing away–Interdisciplinary educational activity.
The Celebration of Books – festivity - The younger pupils’ show was very much appreciated and regarded as a highly entertaining event. Junior high school pupils delighted audiences with their plays poetry and songs, and in so proved that reading is an important part of any education. A major contribution to the festivity, the pupils of fifth, sixth and seventh grade put up a very suggestive artistic collage. There were short plays, such as: The Tree That
Births Crows
(Natalia Gurzun and Marta Plesuvu), Aren’t you reading a book? (Miruna Tudosa and Ioana Jitaru); Hamurabi (by M. Santimbreanu, with Andreea Paval), The Saraband of Fictional Characters (Andreea Grintescu, Dragos Draghici, Eduard Filip, Egidiu Tancau, Cezar Matei). These were alternated with recitals from Ana Blandiana, Tudor Arghezi, Nina Casian and Ioan Alexandru (Ioana Fracase, Isabela Demsa, Andrei Ghelasa, Alexandra Cojocaru, Stefan Ciubotaru, Letitia Vlad and Ioana Iordache).

There were several songs as well: In The Land of Tales (Andreea Paval), A Story in Which I Believe (Andreea Tuduriu) and Open the Gates of the Sun (Andreea Paval, Andreea Tuduriu, Eduard Filip and Aura Sova).
The two presenters, Alex Casaneanu and Alexandra Huluba punctuated each special moment of the festivity with various and interesting thoughts on books, reading and the library, as a haven of knowledge. The event ended on a high note, as the school choir brought an atmosphere of harmony and joy with their interpretation of Bardul de la Mircesti (The Bard of Mircesti) and Ah, ce bucurie! (Oh, What Joy!)

These activities wouldn’t have been possible without the dedicated involvement of students from classes 9C, 9G, 9H, 10B, 10D, 10H, in particular Sadovschi Armand, 10D, Simona Iamandi 10D, Sorana Cancel 10B, Adina Apavaloaie 12G and the following teachers:
