The school librarians from Bacau, Romania, celebrated ISLM for the third year. First of all, on 2nd October, as coordinator of school librarians from our county, I organized a meeting of school librarians (56 participants) on 2nd October. With this occasion, I distributed bookmarks, posters and flyers regarding the IASL and the ISLM. I also sent informative materials to the local newspapers promoting this important celebration (resulting 5 articles).
On the other hand, I coordinated again the Bookmark project. This year, 3 school librarians chose to take part in this project, involving student from their schools: Ligia Grosu (from “Miron Costin” Middle School Bacau), Denisa Imbrea (from “Ion Luca” Middle School Bacau and “Nicolae Iorga” Middle School Bacau) and Lacramioara Onea (from “George Enescu” Middle School Moinesti). Our partners this year were few schools from Pretoria, South Africa, the local coordinator there being Anna Brown.
All the school librarians promoted the ISLM in their schools, organizing exhibits and distributing flyers and bookmarks. But few of them decided to go on and organize some events also.
Lacramioara Onea, librarian from “George Enescu” Middle School Moinesti organized a poster contest (winner Pop Flaviu with his poster “Library – the land of Books”), an exhibit with bookmarks illustrating different scenes from books, storyreading programs, a contest for the most beautiful cover book. Ligia Grosu, librarian from “Miron Costin” Middle School Bacau, presented and started a new national project “Thousands of story heroes looking for a reader” destinated to school librarians, teachers and students from all over the country. Imbrea Denisa, librarian from “Ion Luca” and “Nicolae Iorga” Middle Schools, chose to involve her student in another national project “the Pleasure of Reading”, promoted by Minimax TV and the Asociation of Librarioans (ABR).
I was using the opportunity offered by this special celebration to promote, in my county and in some other counties, our recent involvement in the Campaing for the World`s Libraries. So, I gave presentations for school librarians from Bacau, Suceava and Vaslui, I created and distributed guides, posters, bookmarks and flyers. The first activities organized in Romania as part of this international campaign will happen in November.

From Ushinsky Academic Pedagogical Library
School librarians in Moscow (Russia) have gathered at Ushinsky Academic Pedagogical Library to exchange experiences with colleagues and organize the celebration of International School Library Day. Materials about achievements of school librarians abroad were used during the discussion. This information was taken from the diary of events which was published on the IASL site. The librarians shared stories about changes in their school libraries. They told their colleagues how they used the experience of school librarians from foreign countries. They said that they explore news about school libraries for ideas of how to improve their own work. They agreed to exchange messages about their activities. The celebrations of the International School Library Day in Russia were held on October, 26.

From T.Poljakova
26 October 2009 Saint-Petersburg Academy of post-diploma pedagogical education held an official contest of school librarians named "BibliObraz - 2009", the part of the program of support and developing of reading in Saint-Petersburg for 2009-2011. Contest librarians presented their electronic reports about patterns of organizing of library work at schools, about the most successful forms and methods of attracting children to reading, about interaction of family, school and library new programs.

From Olga Gorshkova, Vologda Institute of Development of Education
School librarians of Vologda region support International School Library Month and traditionally celebrate International School Library Day on 4th Monday of October. It is a great pleasure to be the part of international school librarianship.
This time our school librarians had lots of different activities. The most common and popular were thematic weeks of reading, devoted to works of various writers and poets, actions “We read together” (senior pupils read fragments of books for pupils of junior school), contests of drawings and essays ‘My favorite book character’. We plan more library activities in November together with Russian School Library Association.
Right in the beginning of October the special competition for school librarians of Vologda city was started. The purpose of the competition, “Multimedia presentation as promotional instrument of book and reading”, are to demonstrate creative IT works of school librarians and to refill collection multimedia resources, which could be used by all school librarians. The results will be announced at the beginning of December.
Best regards to colleagues from all other countries! Wish all school libraries will always be the centers of attraction!
