These awards recognised the implementation of innovative ideas by librarian(s)/media specialist(s) to enhance the lifelong learning skills of students. There are two awards, one for developing nations (Category B) and one for developed nations (Category A). The awards were made for the first time in 1998. The principal/supervisor must verify the merits of the application. The award consists of a plaque for the recipient's school and US$400. The cash award will be used to purchase technology that will enhance students' access to information. It is up to the recipient to select the type and brand of technology they feel will be most beneficial to their library. The recipients will write a follow-up letter to the Winnebago Software Company indicating how the cash award was used and how it benefited their library.
