Special Interest Group - International Focus

Co-Chair: Hanna Latuputty, The British International School, Jakarta, Indonesia.
Co-Chair: Andrea Walker, Renaissance College, Ma On Shan, New Territories, Hong Kong.

The International Focus Team:

  • Coralie Clark, Librarian, American International School of Budapest, Budapest, Hungary.
  • Carolyn Sinclair, Librarian, Canadian International School of Hong Kong, Aberdeen, Hong Kong.

Rationale:

This SIG grows out of the International Schools SIG. Not all international schools take part in International Baccalaureate (IB) programs, and not all International Baccalaureate schools are international schools. Nevertheless they have many common areas of interest and concern. In addition there exist multinational schools which are international in nature but which do not have international in their school names. Our field of focus takes in issues of international and multicultural issues of librarianship at the school level. The SIG will thus be of interest to librarians in international and multi-national schools, and to librarians in IB schools.

Objectives:

  1. to celebrate internationalism, multiculturalism and international aspects of librarianship within our schools;
  2. to provide a forum for personnel working in international and IB schools to discuss issues of mutual concern;
  3. to facilitate the sharing of information about school libraries and information technology programs across the many types of international and IB schools;
  4. to develop a resource bank of colleagues who can assist each other in locating information or services according to their various needs and locations.

Potential activities:

  1. identify special needs/issues of school librarians working in international and IB schools;
  2. identify resources of particular significance to international and IB schools;
  3. identify conferences and other professional development activities of interest to international and IB school librarians;
  4. list web sites of international and IB schools and personnel.
