What is IASL-LINK?
IASL-LINK is a closed listserv/group for members of the Association (that is, its membership is restricted to the membership of the Association), and as such, is one of the benefits of membership. IASL-LINK is for communication between members of the Association throughout the world, and for the distribution of announcements and links to discussion papers, articles, news, information about projects, and information from IASL conferences and meetings. It supports the aims and objectives of the Association by providing a communications link and a means of disseminating information. It is not intended to replace other activities of the Association, like the IASL Newsletter, but rather to add another dimension to the Association's communications channels.
IASL-LINK is a group on Yahoo! Groups. IASL-LINK messages can be read as email, or read on the IASL-LINK page on the Yahoo! Groups Web site. All messages remain at the Yahoo! Groups website for reference (unless a message is deleted by the original sender or the Group moderator). Our Yahoo! Group is searchable on the Yahoo! Groups site.
At present, IASL-LINK has more than 300 members, and we have people on the system from every continent except Antarctica. Countries represented include Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Botswana, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Fiji, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, India, Ireland, Israel, Jamaica, Japan, Kuwait, Latvia, Lebanon, Lithuania, Malaysia, Mexico, Micronesia, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Oman, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the West Bank/Palestine.
Messages can be sent to IASL-LINK by anyone who is a member. From time to time, messages will be posted to IASL-LINK for other people, too -- for example, from other professional listservs or groups in the field of education or librarianship or from other professional associations in school librarianship and related fields. Members of the Board of IASL, the Newsletter Editor, and the Chairpersons of IASL Committees are able to use IASL-LINK to provide you with information about any new developments.
Two Levels of Participation
IASL-LINK-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
The moderators of IASL-LINK will receive a message to add you to IASL-LINK. Once your membership in IASL is verified, you will be added to IASL-LINK. This process is very quick, usually within a day. Using IASL-LINK in this manner will allow you access to the listserv capabilities of the Yahoo! Group, but not the variety of other features offered be Yahoo!
To communicate with everyone on IASL-LINK, send an email message to:
IASL-LINK@yahoogroups.com
Make sure that you use a subject line that is descriptive because this subject will not only appear on your message but also on links to the stored message on the Yahoo! Groups site. Your message will be sent automatically to all of the members of the listserv, usually within minutes.
If you want to respond to a message that was sent to IASL-LINK by someone else, use the REPLY function of your electronic mail software in the usual way, and the reply will go just to the person who sent the message to IASL-LINK. Sometimes it might be more appropriate to reply to the whole group, in which case, address your reply to IASL-LINK@yahoogroups.com
Please note that messages with attachments should not be posted to IASL-LINK. One of our goals is to reduce or eliminate spam and viruses. The group has been set so that no messages containing attachments will be transferred through the group. Therefore NEVER open any IASL-LINK message that contains an attachment. Documents and other files can be stored at the group Web page at Yahoo! Groups, but may not be transmitted. Directions follow explaining how to join Yahoo! and link yourself to the group called IASL-LINK so that you can use these features.
If you wish to fully utilize all the capabilities of the Yahoo! Group IASL-LINK has to offer, you must become a Yahoo! member by registering, verifying, and activating your email address with Yahoo! You must use the email address on file with IASL-LINK or the one you plan to use when joining IASL-LINK.
IASL-LINK is located at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/IASL-LINK/
Follow this link to IASL-LINK at Yahoo! Groups. Assuming you are NOT already a member of Yahoo!, you will need to click the link "Join this Group" -- it will lead you to a new window where you will need to click on "Sign up now" The initial process is a bit cumbersome ... so please be patient! We recommend that you have these instructions available and use them as a guide when joining.
This may seem complex and tedious .... but it is well worth the effort in the long run! Give it a try ... We do recommend do this when you can go through all the steps in one sitting. If all goes well, it should take about 10-15 minutes maximum.
If you follow this link to IASL-LINK at Yahoo! Groups and you are already a member of Yahoo! you should simply click the link "Sign in to Yahoo!" and follow the procedures. It will require that you verify your email and link it to this group.

If you want to leave IASL-LINK, then send an email message to the listserv computer at
IASL-LINK-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com
Nothing should appear in the subject line or the body of the message.
Note that this message is sent to the administration address, not to the address that you use to send messages to IASL-LINK for distribution to all members.
