IASL Assembly of Associations and its Communiqué

Information About the Assembly, the Communiqué and the Reporting Template

THE ASSEMBLY OF ASSOCIATIONS

This annual conference forum is an opportunity for official representatives of member organizations concerned with professional development, education and promotion of school librarianship, to share experiences and concerns. Participating organizations include School Library Associations and Institutional members of IASL, together with similar organizations new to IASL. Other conference delegates, particularly those trying to establish School Library Associations, are encouraged to attend the forum as observers.

What is the purpose of the Assembly of Associations?

The Assembly provides an opportunity for review of school librarianship in member countries and areas. The Executive summary attempts to highlight key issues arising in reports from member associations. An invited panel presents topics of interest, and an open discussion assists dialogue to establish mutual support networks and ways of addressing challenges faced by member Associations.

What is the Communiqué?

The Assembly of Associations Communiqué is a record of member association's annual reports on local developments in School Librarianship.

What is the purpose of the Communiqué?

The purpose of the Communiqué is to provide an indication of the global state of school librarianship and learning. An Executive Summary highlights effective policies, strategies, projects and publications, and makes recommendations for action. The Communiqué may be used as a tool for planning.

Who uses the Communiqué?

The Communiqué is used by members of the School Librarian profession and those they serve, including policy makers, administrators, tertiary educators, government ministers for education, information technology and national library services.

Who contributes to the Communiqué?

Written reports are invited from member associations and individual members who are working towards the establishment of local associations.

Reports must be submitted to the Secretariat by mail or email on or before 30 May.

For any questions related to the Communiqué or Assembly of Associations please feel free to email the Vice-President: Association Relations.

Important Information for Contributors to the Communiqué:

Please use the IASL Report Template for Association Communications for all reports for the Communiqué. This template can be printed out from the web or the headings can be copied into a Word document using "copy and paste".

While every effort is taken to ensure the accuracy and authority of the reports included in the Assembly of Association Communiqué, final responsibility for each report rests with its author and the Association or Institution represented.
